A DAY IN VENICE FROM VERONA  – ROCCO ROVER- 7 giugno 2024

A Day in Venice from Verona

If you’re looking to escape the charm of Verona for a day and immerse yourself in the magical canals of Venice, you’re in for an unforgettable adventure. Traveling by train is the perfect way to make the most of your day trip, allowing you to sit back and enjoy the picturesque landscapes between these two iconic Italian cities. Here’s a friendly guide to help you experience Venice like a local, with some great spots to savor lunch and an aperitif.

Getting To Venice

Start your journey by taking the regionale veloce (Rv) train from Verona Porta Nuova to Venezia Santa Lucia. The train ride is comfortable and scenic, whisking you to Venice in about 1 hour and 15 minutes. Arriving at Santa Lucia station, you’ll step out directly into the enchanting world of Venice, with its canals, gondolas, and historic architecture.

Exploring Venice

From the train station, your first stop should be the Frari Church. This stunning basilica is home to magnificent works of art, including masterpieces by Titian and Bellini. A short walk from there brings you to San Polo, one of the oldest neighborhoods in Venice, known for its lively markets and charming streets.

Next, make your way to the iconic Rialto Bridge. As you cross this historic bridge, take in the bustling atmosphere and the stunning views of the Grand Canal. Nearby, it’s time for a delicious lunch at Rosticceria Gislon.

Lunch At Rosticceria Gislon

Located just a stone’s throw from the Rialto Bridge, Rosticceria Gislon (Calle de la Bissa, 5424/a, 30124 Venezia VE) is a beloved local spot where you can savor some of Venice’s traditional snacks. Be sure to try the mozzarella in carrozza, a delightful fried mozzarella sandwich that’s a Venetian classic. It’s a quick and tasty way to refuel before continuing your exploration.

Afternoon Adventures

After lunch, head towards the iconic Piazza San Marco. Here, you can visit the stunning St. Mark’s Basilica and the opulent Palazzo Ducale. Both landmarks offer a deep dive into Venice’s rich history and architectural splendor.

Once you’ve soaked in the grandeur of Piazza San Marco, you have two delightful options for getting back to the station:

  1. Waterbus Vaporetto Number 1: This route takes you on a scenic journey through the Grand Canal, allowing you to admire the palaces and bridges from the water. It’s a leisurely ride that lets you see Venice from a different perspective.

  2. Waterbus Vaporetto Number 2 to Zattere: This option gives you a shorter ride but takes you to Zattere, known for its beautiful views. From here, enjoy a picturesque walk to Cantine del Vino già Schiavi for an aperitif.

Aperitif At Cantine Del Vino Già Schiavi

Situated along the peaceful Fondamenta Nani, Cantine del Vino già Schiavi (Fondamenta Nani, 992, 30123 Venezia VE) is a must-visit for a true Venetian experience. This charming wine bar offers a variety of cicchetti—small, delicious Venetian tapas, often featuring fresh seafood. Pair your cicchetti with a glass of local wine and enjoy the relaxed ambiance as you watch the world go by.

Dinner At Cantina Do Spade

If you have time and an appetite for more Venetian cuisine before heading back to Verona, consider dining at Cantina Do Spade (San Polo, 859, 30125 Venezia VE). Located close to the Rialto Bridge, this historic restaurant offers a cozy setting and serves up delicious traditional dishes. It’s the perfect way to end your day in Venice with a hearty meal that captures the essence of Venetian culinary heritage.

Heading Back To Verona

After a day of exploring, dining, and soaking in the beauty of Venice, walk back to Venezia Santa Lucia station for your return train to Verona. As you journey back, you’ll have plenty of wonderful memories and perhaps a few souvenirs to remind you of your magical day in Venice.

Enjoy your trip, and savor every moment in this enchanting city!
